Essential clues to Barocci’s artistic process were recorded in the earliest biographies of the artist by Giovan Pietro Bellori and Filippo Baldinucci. However, earlier manuals on the Italian painting tradition by Cennino Cennini, Leon Battista Alberti, Giorgio Vasari and Giovanni Battista Armenini, were fundamental for the training of Italian Renaissance artists and still enrich our understanding of their drawings to this day.
