Barocci Drawings: Media

Barocci was one of the most innovative draftsmen of his time with an extraordinary sensitivity to colour. He made remarkably naturalistic and highly-finished drawings using a variety of techniques including coloured chalks, pastels, and oils, often applied on coloured paper. Each of his methods is discussed below in the light of the early literary sources about Italian drawing and painting practice.
